Ryan Schmidt began her journey in the performing arts with dance lessons at age two right here at Perry Woodard School of Dance and has not stopped training and performing since. She was an original member of Danscene and assisted teaching classes throughout high school. While attending Western Michigan University, Ryan returned to PWSD to teach and choreograph for Danscene, many of her dances receiving Platinum, High Score, and Specialty awards. After graduating summa cum laude from WMU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, Ryan moved to New York City where she fell in love with the aerial arts. She has studied, performed, and taught aerial silks, hoop, hammock, harness, and net. During her time in NYC she performed with several dance companies, competed with the Top 50 in Las Vegas for So You Think You Can Dance? Season 7, and received her 200-hr certification from ISHTA Yoga in Manhattan. Ryan also co-created, managed, and performed with the contemporary circus arts company Silk and taught silks, hammock, hoop, and flexibility at the world renowned pole and aerial studio Body & Pole. She currently tours the United States and abroad as an aerialist for the dance music festival Life In Color and teaches aerial classes, workshops, and teacher trainings on her time off tour.
Ryan has trained each of the aerial instructors at PWSD and currently serves as the head of the aerial department. For more information on Ryan please visit her website www.ryan-schmidt.com.
